How to succeed in your job interview

When you are invited to a job interview with one of our clients, it means that both your CV and your presentation have shown that you are well qualified for the role. Congratulations! Now it is about confirming that good first impression when you meet the client. We want you to feel confident and well prepared – both for your own sake, and because in the interview you represent Head Energy and the values we stand for.
Before the interview: How to prepare for the client meeting
Learn about the company and the role
Read up on the client, the projects they work on and the role you are being considered for. Think about how your experience and expertise can help meet the client's needs. Your Head Energy advisor will always give you useful, up-to-date background information, but preparing yourself builds confidence and shows professionalism and interest.
Reflect on your own experience
Be ready to talk about previous projects and what you have learned.
Typical questions may include:
- Can you tell us about a project where you had a key role?
- How did you handle unforeseen challenges along the way?
- How do you ensure quality and progress in complex projects?
- What professional achievement are you most proud of?
Prepare for technical topics and cases
The client may want to test how you think professionally – often through short scenarios or questions:
- An engineer may be asked to describe how they would solve a specific technical problem.
- A project manager may be given a case about resource management, risk or scheduling.
- A finance professional or controller may be asked about budget follow-up and reporting.
This is not about “testing” you, but about understanding how you approach a challenge and communicate solutions.
Think about your motivation
Reflect on what makes the role interesting to you – professional development, type of project, the working environment or values. Genuine enthusiasm always makes an impression.
Practical preparations
Confirm the time and place well in advance, and be punctual. Dress professionally and appropriately for the client's industry. Check who you will be meeting, and whether the interview takes place in person or online.

During the interview: How to make a good impression on the client
Be professional – but natural
An interview is a conversation, not an exam. Be yourself, and show enthusiasm for both your field and the project. Listen actively, ask questions and show interest in how you can contribute.
Common topics may include:
- Project methodology and ways of working
- Collaboration and communication
- HSE and quality
- Change management or continuous improvement
- Client dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration
Represent Head Energy
When you meet the client, you represent Head Energy. This means you show who we are through the way you communicate and conduct yourself. We want to be remembered for our values – responsible, inclusive, honest and innovative. So be clear, honest and respectful in every conversation.
Ask good questions
A good job interview is a two-way dialogue. Feel free to ask about:
- The project's goals and challenges
- How the team is organised
- Expectations of the role in the first few months
- The working environment and culture
- This shows engagement, maturity and professional curiosity.
After the interview: What happens next – and how to follow up professionally
After the job interview, your Head Energy advisor will follow up with both you and the client to discuss impressions and next steps. We appreciate honest feedback, as it helps us ensure a good match for both parties.
At Head Energy, we want our people to succeed – not only in what they deliver, but in the relationships they build. A good interview is the first step on the way.
We're rooting for you!
