High Activity and Growth in Emerging Market Segments for Head Energy Multicontrol

Head Energy Multicontrol is currently experiencing high activity both within its traditional subsea market and in new growth areas such as aquaculture. “Demand for our specialized systems and services is increasing sharply, and we are in the midst of a very busy period,” says General Manager Trond Erik Gundersen.
The production facilities at Flesland are characterized by high activity. Six parallel projects related to monitoring subsea blowout preventer (BOP) systems are in progress simultaneously, and together with new contracts, this provides full capacity utilization for the product and technology development team in the months ahead.
“We are experiencing high demand for our core expertise in control systems and monitoring systems, tailored to demanding operating environments. With a highly experienced team of engineers and technicians, as well as modern facilities, we are well equipped to deliver with high quality and precision — even under time pressure,” says Gundersen.
Travel RLWI Season — Dedicated Offshore Team
Also within Riserless Light Well Intervention (RLWI), the company enters a very busy period with multiple mobilizations throughout the summer. RLWI is a method for light offshore well interventions, where maintenance and repairs are carried out on oil and gas wells without the use of risers or traditional drilling rigs. This makes the processes more flexible and cost-effective.
“Summer is the peak season for RLWI operations, and our team is working hard to meet the needs. Our technicians and engineers customize vacations and are extensively offshore to ensure we deliver on both time, quality and HSE. We get very good feedback from our customers, both on technical execution and flexibility in deliveries,” says Hege Kristin Holemark, Operations Manager at Head Energy Multicontrol.
Strong growth in aquaculture, propulsion systems and battery packs.
Head Energy Multicontrol has in recent years focused on establishing itself as a supplier to the aquaculture industry. This work is now yielding results.
“The aquaculture industry is developing strongly, with an increased focus on sustainability, operational safety and automated monitoring. We see a clear trend where players are demanding solutions in management, communication, power supply, mechanics and surveillance,” says Gundersen.
In the past year, the company has won contracts both in the development and production of Subsea Interface Modules and power cabinets for established players in the aquaculture industry.
“Our expertise from demanding subsea operations is directly transferable to aquaculture. This applies to both the design, testing and manufacturing of robust systems. We see good opportunities for further growth in this segment,” says Gundersen.
The company has also begun providing specialized engineering and development resources to customers developing propulsion systems and battery packs for ships.
“Although we are not a consulting company, in some cases we offer to hire our specialists to clients who need temporary access to high expertise in electronics, software and automation. These are typical assignments where we can contribute solution-oriented technology expertise,” says Gundersen.

Bets against the defense industry
Even with high activity in subsea and growth in new segments, Head Energy Multicontrol is now also looking towards a new and exciting market: the defense industry.
“With an increased focus on the production of defence equipment and security systems in the Nordic region and Europe, it is natural that we also position ourselves towards this segment. Especially in software development and electronics, we have heavy expertise that can be adapted to the requirements of defense projects,” explains Gundersen.
He points out that many of the demands for precision, robustness and quality in the subsea industry are fully transferable to the defence industry.
“We have extensive experience in developing and producing solutions that will work in extreme conditions. This makes us well equipped to supply products to several parts of the defence value chain,” Gundersen concludes.
