Fire protection of medieval building

Fire protection of gallery and organ in connection with planned rehabilitation of Stavanger Cathedral.

In connection with planned repairs to the cathedral, we have provided the architectural office Schjelderup & Gram with fire technical advice. We have assisted the architects in connection with the rehabilitation of the mezzanine floor with organ and the aisle with voids underneath. The cathedral is Norway's oldest cathedral and was completed in about 1150.

Listed buildings are often challenging to fireproof as safety standards do not fit with the need and desire for building protection.

In this project, the architectural office Schjelderup & Gram and we have had a good cooperation to find good fire technical solutions that meet the Swedish National Antiquarian's requirements for protection. In the project, we have considered the escape conditions from the organ at the gallery and in this context the need to upgrade the structures fire technically.
