Head Energy Geo maps soil deposits for Ahus
Commissioned by Akershus University Hospital (Ahus), Head Energy Geo is mapping the soil deposits beneath the sites west of the hospital. The ground investigation will provide the basis for assessing the hospital's future development.
Our scope: Ground investigation
The ground investigation is part of the work to assess the future development of new buildings at Akershus University Hospital. According to the Geological Survey of Norway's (NGU) map of superficial deposits, there are thick marine deposits in the area, and previous investigations show 10–15 metres of clay above the bedrock. The purpose of the ground investigation is to map the soil deposits to gain a better understanding of the ground conditions ahead of further zoning of the area.
Head Energy Geo's role in the project is to collect data using a drill rig. The work includes 20 total soundings, cone penetration tests (CPT), installation of electric piezometers, geotechnical and environmental sampling, and laboratory testing. The work is carried out in close cooperation with Norconsult, the project's responsible geotechnical engineer.
The ongoing investigations have so far revealed soil depths of 15–28 metres, as well as clay.
– The findings provide valuable information that forms a solid basis for safe planning and design of future buildings in the area. This is an exciting and important project that paves the way for safe construction – a field where we are proud to contribute our specialist expertise, says Jostein Soldal, Head of Geology & Environment at Head Energy Geo.
